ISG lands mega 拢125m Broadgate fit-out deal

ISG has won a 拢125m fit-out contract for the UK headquarters of UBS at 5 Broadgate, London.

The building is under construction and ISG is scheduled to start work on site at the beginning of 2015, following a 12 month pre-construction period.   

The group will deliver 700,000 sq ft of commercial office space for UBS.

ISG chief executive David Lawther said: 鈥淔ollowing such an exceptional year鈥檚 performance for our London fit-out business in 2013, a win of this scale and prestige is a tremendous result and further reinforces our position as the sector鈥檚 lead contractor.

Tim Wates appointed UK business ambassador

Wates Group director Tim Wates has been appointed a UK business ambassador by prime minister David Cameron.
 
He joins 51 other business leaders who will promote growth among UK businesses at home and abroad, aiming to create inward investment in the UK. The Business Ambassadors Group was founded in 2008.
 
Mr Wates began his career with Cazenove & Co in the City of London before joining Wates Group, where he is currently a director and chairman of The Wates Family Council, which is the group鈥檚 family shareholder forum.

Skanska industrial relations chief dies
 
Skanska鈥檚 head of industrial relations Gareth Evans died over the weekend, it has been confirmed.
 
Mr Evans had been responsible for labour relations at the company since 2009 and was a employment law specialist.
 
A spokesperson for Skanska told Construction News: 鈥淥ur thoughts are with Gareth鈥檚 family at this time and we have nothing further to add.鈥
 
The contractor could not confirm the circumstances of Mr Evans death.

Network Rail awards contracts for 拢2bn electrification works
 
Four firms have scooped massive wins on Network Rail鈥檚 拢2bn electrification programme.

The framework suppliers will work with Network Rail to plan and deliver a range of schemes, which will see major routes in England, Wales and Scotland electrified for the first time. 

ABC Electrification (Alstom, Babcock and Costain), AmeyInabensa (Amey and Inabensa), Balfour Beatty and CarillionPowerlines (a 70:30 joint venture between Carillion and Austrian-based SPL Powerlines) have been appointed as suppliers to deliver 拢2bn-worth of work to electrify more than 2,000 miles of Britain鈥檚 railway over the next seven years.
