Clugston celebrates 75th year with record profits

Clugston celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012 with record profits, it announced today. Turnover increased by 30 per cent to 拢108.7m from 拢83.8m in the previous year, while pre-tax profits trebled from 拢2m to 拢6.1m in the year ended 31 January 2013. Energy-from-waste and education have remained core sectors for the firm.

Office of Fair Trading clears way for Kier May Gurney deal

The Office of Fair Trading announced today that it will not be referring Kier鈥檚 takeover proposal of May Gurney to the Competition Commission. The decision clears the way for the acquisition to go ahead, with May Gurney shareholders set to vote on the Kier proposal at the general meeting on 13 June. Kier announced on 24 April that the companies had reached agreement in principle on an offer of 拢221m for the support services firm, trumping the previous 拢178m offer from Costain.

BG Group has awarded Amec a 拢110m contract extension to provide construction and procurement services in the North Sea. Amec will provide engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and project management for all of BG Group鈥檚 facilities in the central North Sea.

Crane drops load

A motorist in Leith had a lucky escape on Friday morning when a crane dropped its load onto his car. The driver was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for shock. A construction worker was also taken to hospital for minor injuries. The Health & Safety executive is investigating.The crane was working on the 拢4m redevelopment of a former market hall into apartments on Great Junction Street for the Port of Leith Housing Association.
