Skanska profits climb as orders rocket 23pc

Skanska UK saw profits and margins increase in 2012 as its order book rose almost 23 per cent, it announced today. Reporting results for the year to December 2012, it said revenue was 拢1.16bn, down 4.5 per cent on the 拢1.22bn last year. Operating profit rose 4.2 per cent to 拢42.1m from 拢40.4m, with operating margins up from 3.3 per cent to 3.6 per cent. Orders rose 23 per cent from 拢878m to 拢1.08bn, while the order backlog was down 5 per cent from 拢1.89bn to 拢1.8bn.

BAM to build Zaha Hadid's Oxford landmark

BAM is to build an 拢11m addition to the University of Oxford鈥檚 Middle East Centre, designed by architect Dame Zaha Hadid.The contractor is due to start on site at St Antony鈥檚 College this month to deliver the 拢11m Softbridge building, to be built between two listed buildings.The new facility will have three storeys plus and a basement, housing a library and reading room, an auditorium, a caf茅 and archive storage rooms. Hadid鈥檚 use of glass curtain walling and steel cladding is expected to make the building a new landmark within the city. FSC-approved timber will be used to boost the project鈥檚 sustainability credentials.

Laing O鈥橰ourke set for 拢50m Welsh super school

Laing O鈥橰ourke has been asked to put together a final target price to build the planned Aberdare super school in the Cynon Valley. According to project sources the contractor has signed a NEC professional services contract to work up a price for the Michael Sobell Centre redevelopment.鈥淎ll being well the building project will then get underway in May or June,鈥� the insider told the Enquirer. The redevelopment includes a 1,600-pupil secondary school and community leisure complex, which are budgeted to cost around 拢50m.
