ISG chief executive David Lawther has said he expects its construction division to continue working at a 0.2 per cent margin for at least another year.Mr Lawther told CN restructuring costs will be 鈥渘orth of 拢1 million鈥 in 2012/13 as the firm 鈥渃ontinues to manage its cost base in line with the market鈥. But he said there are signs of major projects coming back in the fit-out sector, where orders have rocketed by 83 per cent.

Amec turned in an 11 per cent increase in earnings in 2012, the company's annual results have shown.Earnings before interest, tax and amortisation reached 拢331m, up 11% on the 2011 level. Revenue was 拢4.1m, up 28 per cent over the year and the company鈥檚 margin was 8%, down on the previous year鈥檚 9.2 per cent. Amec鈥檚 order book was little changed on its size a year ago, falling by 拢0.1bn to 拢3.6bn. Chief executive Samir Brikho said: 鈥滱mec continued to make good progress in 2012, with earnings per share up by 14% and strong operating cash flow.
Carillion chief executive Richard Howson has said he anticipates construction operating margins of up to 4 per cent in the short-term, while defending the firm's approach to how it pays its supply chain. Mr Howson said the firm is pleased with its 2012 results, after posting a 13 per cent drop in revenue from 拢5.1 billion to 拢4.4bn as the company shrank its UK construction business and saw revenue fall in the Middle East, where it is targeting a 拢1bn turnover. Underlying pre-tax profit for the group was down 4 per cent to 拢232.4 million.
Strong profits from highways and rail work helped to lift Costain pre-tax profits 16% to nearly 拢30m. But as Costain concentrated on lifting group margin to 4%, revenue fell back around 5% to 拢934m. Andrew Wyllie, chief executive, said the infrastructure division had a very successful year generating strong operating returns and additional gains on successfully completed and final accounted projects. He said the rail, highways and airport division continues to see high tendering activity.
