Seddon picked for Edgbaston care home

Contractor Seddon starts construction work this month on a new 拢4.2m care home in Edgbaston, Birmingham, for Gracewell Healthcare. The 70-bed home will be built at the site of the Birmingham Central Synagogue in Pershore Road. The former synagogue building will be demolished and the four-storey care facility built in its place. The Central Synagogue itself is relocating to renovated premises next-door with funds released from the sale of the old site to Gracewell Healthcare. Architects Pozzoni have taken Gracewell鈥檚 initial design to finalise the scheme. Completion is scheduled for October 2014.

Churchill Retirement Living plots 拢500m site expansion drive

Older people's housing specialist Churchill Retirement Living has launched a three-year 拢500million land acquisition and development programme. According to Architect Journal's sister title Construction News, Churchill has bought 18 sites over the year, completed nine developments and secured planning permission for 13 more, with another 16 applications currently awaiting a decision. The company increased its staff numbers from 255 to 306, opened a new office in St Albans and extended its Ringwood head office.

Balfour lands 拢30m Tower Hill hotel job

Balfour Beatty has bagged a 拢30m contract to build a new hotel for the citizenM group next to Tower Hill station in the City of London. The nine storey hotel will comprise of 370 luxurious modular bedrooms over eight floors, a ground floor cafe, bar, living room spaces and a SocietyM business club on the eighth and ninth levels. Gregory Demolition is currently preparing the site to allow main construction work to start. The main works of the hotel are programmed for completion in autumn 2014.
