Interserve takes 拢700m in Q1 contracts

Interserve has won more than 拢700m of new work in Q1 2013 from clients including Jaguar Land Rover and Magnox. Interserve said in its interim management statement that it had won 鈥渟ignificant contracts from new and existing clients鈥� and that it continues to invest to drive efficiency gains and facilitate organic growth, as it announced trading is in line with guidance to-date this year.

British Land has announced profits before tax rose 1.9 per cent to 拢274m in its full-year results today. The developer said it is continuing to benefit from its focus on London, the South-east and 鈥渉igh-quality retail鈥� around the UK. Chief executive Chris Grigg said: 鈥淎lthough we continue to be cautious about the overall economic environment, we believe our core business will be resilient as we benefit from our focus on the better performing markets in London and the South East and on high-quality retail around the UK.

Steve Gelder founded his company 25 years ago with just one apprentice; today, a focus on customer service and diversification has turned it into a multi-million pound business with more than 300 employees.Steve Gelder dreamed of being a professional footballer at school, as most young boys do. But when that didn鈥檛 work out, he ended up labouring on a building site.

Network Rail revamps contractor league tables

Network Rail has revamped its supplier ranking system to focus on the 鈥渙verall performance鈥� of contractors. The latest league table puts contractors in five performance bands from A to E, instead of ranking contractors individually against one another. Within each band contractors are listed alphabetically, rather than ranked according to their individual performance.
