Balfour Beatty has confirmed it is 'exploring strategic options' for its office maintenance business WorkPlace amid reports that it is selling the division for 拢250 million. The UK鈥檚 biggest construction firm has appointed Citigroup to advise on the sale of the unit, the FT reported today, citing sources close to the deal.Balfour Beatty put a statement out to the Stock Exchange within an hour of the report. It said: 鈥淏alfour Beatty, the global infrastructure group, notes today鈥檚 press speculation regarding its UK facilities management business and confirms that it is currently exploring strategic options for this business in keeping with its strategy to focus on economic infrastructure.

Go-ahead has been given for construction of a 拢75m waste treatment facility by Babcock & Wilcox Volund and Interserve

Planning permission has been secured and the contract setting out the city鈥檚 future waste management plan has been signed. Viridor Peterborough Ltd, a subsidiary of Pennon Group, has signed a public private partnership (PPP) contract with Peterborough City Council to treat the council's residual waste over the next 30 years.The contract requires the development of an energy from waste (EfW) facility at the council's existing recycling site in the Fengate industrial area.  The plant will be built by a joint venture between Babcock & Wilcox Volund and Interserve Construction as the engineering and procurement contractor to Viridor.  The facility will have a capacity to process up to 85,000 tonnes of waste per annum and will have a net electrical power generation capacity of 7.25MW.

Galliford Try loses 拢18m Birmingham NEC deal

Galliford Try has lost an 拢18 million job to refurbish the Birmingham NEC after the parties failed to negotiate a 鈥渃ommercially suitable outcome鈥 on the contract.The National Exhibition Centre Ltd is retendering the contract and posted a fresh OJEU notice today. The NEC says its budget for the job is 拢20m. Galliford Try had announced the deal as an 拢18m contract win back in September last year. It comes a few months after Galliford Try announced financial close on an 拢89m deal to build a new development including a casino and hotel at the NEC.
